How do you deal with social anxiety at school?

·3 replies·Posted anonymously·24 days ago

I've been struggling a lot lately with feeling anxious in school — especially in classes where I have to speak up or work in groups. It's like my brain goes blank and I can't think straight even when I know the answer. Has anyone else experienced this? What actually helped you?

I used to feel exactly this way. What helped me was doing a breathing exercise before class — even 4 deep breaths makes a difference. Also, remember that most people are too focused on themselves to notice your anxiety as much as you think they do.

I found that preparing something to say before class helped a lot. Even if I didn't say it, having a plan made me less anxious. Also talking to the teacher privately about it — some teachers are really understanding.

Therapy helped me a lot but I know that's not available to everyone. In the meantime, the Handling Anxiety growth path on here actually has some really practical exercises that helped.
